Prayer for Ukraine in Time of War

O Lord Almighty, Creator of heaven and earth, source of all goodness and Giver of life! Your mercy is greater than the heavens.

Out of Your great love for us, You have given us, Your children, the blessed land of Ukraine, which we have received as a precious gift from Your loving hands. We thank You that we may call ourselves her daughters and sons and that we may be nourished by the abundance of Your gifts.

Lord, You know well that we, as a people, are now facing a difficult trial in our national life. You have given us freedom, through which we bear Your likeness, Oh our Creator, as those made in Your image.

From Your hands we received our country, free and independent, for which throughout the centuries a great multitude of Ukrainians have struggled — heroes of faith, righteous men and women, and courageous defenders of the spirit.

Today, bowing before You in prayer, our loving Father, we ask forgiveness on behalf of every Ukrainian for the sins of our people. We especially ask forgiveness for the lack of unity among us, for divisions within our society, corruption, moral failings, and social injustice. Forgive us our transgressions, for from this day forward we desire to be Your people, faithfully keeping Your commandments and Your will.

In this time of hardship and war, we turn to You with contrite hearts, knowing that our destiny is in Your hands. In the face of the enemy who has treacherously invaded our common home, we implore You for help and deliverance!

We know that nothing happens without Your permission. Therefore, O Master, we entrust ourselves to Your loving Providence, which never abandons anyone to their fate.

With open hearts, we ask You to deliver us from the hands of the enemy who cruelly inflicts suffering upon our people, and to grant us the long-awaited victory and a path toward a blessed future among the free nations of the world.

Today, we Ukrainians, united in this common prayer, entrust to You our country and all our faithful people; our capital, the ancient city of Kyiv; all our cities and villages; our courageous heroes and defenders; and our present and future. We place them forever into the hands of Your loving and merciful Providence.

Amen.
