Rooted in Christ
Recently, many of us witnessed orange skies because of the wildfires. Those living close to the fires experienced fear and anxiety as once-familiar landscapes were transformed into scorched ground. What is important to remember, however, is that beneath what appears lifeless lies a living root system that allows the forest to regenerate.
Our parents and grandparents were much like those roots. They passed through the fires of war, came to this country, and built new churches and communities. Their roots — Christian faith, prayers, sacrifice, and countless acts of kindness — though often invisible, continue to nourish us and make our own growth possible today.
Let us not focus on the fires that scorch our lives, but on our roots in Christ, who always brings renewal.
