The Sacred Heart is a place of rest

Last Friday, we celebrated the Feast of the Sacred Heart. What is the Sacred Heart for those who believe in Jesus?

His Heart is a place of rest when we are overwhelmed, a place of healing when we are wounded, and a place of peace when life feels heavy. We often try to manage our lives by ourselves — all our responsibilities, struggles, and emotions. We try to be strong; we feel that we cannot show any weakness.

The Sacred Heart reminds us that we are not meant to carry our burdens by ourselves. The Heart of Jesus invites us to come and rest. There is no need to prove yourself. It does not say, “Try harder!” or “Be stronger!” It simply says, “Come to me!”

We all carry wounds — some visible, some hidden. We carry moments from the past that we wish we could go back and fix. But instead of bringing these wounds to God, we often try to hide them.

The Sacred Heart is already wounded. It understands the pain and heaviness of life, and it offers something the world cannot give. The Heart of Jesus offers us not the absence of problems, but peace in the midst of them — a peace that says, “Even here and now, you are safe in my love.”
