Living in the light of God’s presence

What occupies your thoughts first thing in the morning? What takes up most of your attention during the day? What do you worry about the most?

In today’s Gospel, Jesus speaks about the eye — the direction of the heart. If our hearts are directed toward God, our thoughts, decisions, and lives are guided by Him. Then our souls are filled with peace, clarity, harmony, and gentleness. If our hearts are directed toward darkness, we become filled with anxiety and tension, and life loses its light.

The things we look at, listen to, and think about every day shape who we become. Attention forms thoughts, thoughts become actions, and actions shape our character. What kind of person would you like to become?

If we focus on success, control, comparison with others, or fear of tomorrow, we will live in anxiety and discontent. But if we turn our gaze toward God — in prayer, gratitude, forgiveness, and service to others — our hearts will gradually be transformed. We will find peace even in difficulties and discover that our lives have meaning when we walk with God.

Let us ask God to purify our gaze, so that we may not be lost in darkness, but live in the light of His presence.
